Why We Exist

The people of West Virginia typically hold conservative views on social and family issues. Yet they are a people who frequently choose public officials who hold more liberal views, views to the left of center, and who support public policy that does not reflect the thinking of most citizens of this State.

Currently, there seems to be a great concern among the citizens of this State for the direction in which the nation and state seem to be going. People have become more vocal in their witness to the need for a major switch in the direction of more conservative views. There has been a great outcry for leadership of a conservative nature, expressed as a desire for an organization to step forward and work to unite the voices of conservatism in West Virginia. One need only study the results of the last several elections to see how conservative people are beginning to speak out in ways that will have a major impact in shaping public policy.

To meet this need, a number of people have stepped forward and stated a desire and a willingness to fill this void in conservative leadership. People have come from the ranks of businessmen; from the ranks of retired persons who have the time to work; people from the ranks of civic and social leaders; people from among the clergy; and people from the ranks of average citizens. By stepping forward they are saying: I am willing to work within an organization that is dedicated to filling the void of conservative leadership by becoming a leader in an effort to restore our State and our Nation in terms of the principles upon which both were founded. These people have expressed a willingness to work. They have been waiting for a vehicle through which they can express their views.

West Virginia Family Foundation will serve as that vehicle. It will provide an opportunity for conservative West Virginians to be heard on social and family issues. They are the major domestic issues of our day and each is grounded in one's perception of morality.
